What is the difference between the Greentree Pool and the LORAC?

This is a new question we are getting from non-members. The Greentree Pool is a private, outdoor neighborhood pool exclusively available to families living within the Westridge or Hallinan Elementary school boundaries.

Unlike the LORAC—a modern, year-round indoor facility open to the public—Greentree offers something more personal and nostalgic: an old-school summer experience shared with your neighbors. Think of the kind of summer you’d see in The Sandlot or classic 1950s movies, where kids ride their bikes to the pool, cannonball into the deep end, and spend long afternoons soaking up the sun with friends they go to school with.

Greentree is open during the warmest months of the year, when kids want to be outside, not indoors. It’s a place where families build friendships, memories, and a sense of community—something you just can’t replicate in a large, public facility. While we’re lucky to have the LORAC in town, it simply doesn’t compare to the charm and connection that comes with a neighborhood pool on a sunny summer day.

Can my child come to the pool alone?

Children aged 10 to 13 may be allowed to visit the pool without an adult if they pass the required annual swim test, often referred to as the “patch test” and submit a signed permission form from a parent or guardian. This form will be kept on file.

Please note:

  • The swim test must be taken every year. Past swim tests will not carry over.
  • A guardian must be present at the time of the swim test to sign the required form.
  • Children under 14 who have not passed the swim test must be accompanied by someone age 14 or older while at the pool.

The swim test includes:

  • Swimming two lengths of the pool without stopping
  • Floating for two minutes
  • Treading water for two minutes

If you are interested in having your child take the swim test, please inquire with the lifeguard on duty.

What should my child wear if they’re not potty-trained?

All children who are not fully potty-trained are required to wear swim diapers while in the pool. This helps prevent accidents that can result in a lengthy pool closure—jokingly referred to as a “code brown”—which is inconvenient for everyone and often embarrassing for the family involved.

Thank you for helping us keep the pool clean and open for all to enjoy!

Does the pool ever get so busy that there is nowhere to sit?

While the pool can get busy—especially in June, which is typically our most crowded month—it’s rare that there aren’t enough tables or seating options for everyone. In the event that all tables are in use, we encourage members to share tables when possible. It’s a great opportunity to meet neighbors, and many lasting friendships have started this way!

As the summer progresses and families head out on vacations, the pool generally becomes less crowded.

How do I check in to the pool?

Greentree Pool uses the MemberSplash membership system for check-ins. When you arrive, a lifeguard will typically greet you at the front gate and check in your family and any guests using our system.

If a lifeguard is not present at the gate when you arrive, please use the self check-in computer located at the entrance to sign in your family and any guests.

Checking in each visit is mandatory and helps us ensure a safe and accurate record of who is at the pool.

Can we bring pool toys and floaties to the pool?

Yes! We want Greentree Pool to be a fun and family-friendly place, and we allow pool toys and floaties. However, their use is subject to the discretion of the lifeguards on duty. On especially busy days, lifeguards may restrict the use of floaties or certain toys to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.

Toys that are thrown through the air—like footballs or flying discs—may also be restricted during crowded times. Squirt guns are generally discouraged as they can lead to unnecessary conflicts.

A good rule of thumb: if a toy or floatie is likely to disrupt or interfere with other members’ enjoyment of the pool, please leave it at home.

For safety reasons, glass-containing toys and swimming devices that bind the legs or feet (such as mermaid tails) are strictly prohibited—regardless of swimming ability.

Does the pool have lifeguards?

Yes, we typically have at least two lifeguards on duty to help maintain a safe swimming environment, enforce pool rules, and monitor water quality. Our guards are often local high school and college students, many of whom grew up swimming at Greentree Pool.

However, there are occasional instances—especially during peak sports seasons—when we may operate without lifeguards on duty. When this happens, children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. We’ll always communicate clearly when lifeguards are not present to ensure everyone’s safety.

How busy does the pool get?

Pool attendance varies with the season and weather. During summer weekdays, it’s typically quietest between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, then steadily picks up in the late afternoon. On hot summer days and holidays, you can expect the highest turnout, so plan accordingly if you’re looking for a quieter swim.

What is the most common age range of children at the pool?

While our pool is open to swimmers of all ages, the majority of members are families with children roughly 2–13 years old. In general:

  • Younger children (ages 2–6) tend to swim primarily between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
  • Older children (ages 7–13) use the pool throughout the day.

Most families “age out” of our kids-focused atmosphere once their youngest child enters Grade 7, but you’ll always find a lively mix of ages depending on the season and time of day.

Can I bring guests to the pool?

Yes, you may bring guests to the Greentree Pool however you must register them upon check in. Each guest will incur a fee of $5 per visit. On your monitor night you may have up to 10 guests free of charge.

Can I bring alcohol to the pool?

Yes, alcohol is permitted at the Greentree Pool so long as it is not in a glass container. Glass of ANY kind is prohibited on pool property. Please consume responsibly and be mindful of those around you.

When is the pool open?

The pool typically opens the first Thursday before Memorial Day and closes the Sunday after Labor Day. Summer hours are 12pm – 9pm with a few exceptions. For up to date opening hours visit our hours of operation page.
